ENGAWA

In traditional Japanese houses, the "engawa" refers to a wooden strip of flooring located inside the room, just before windows and shutters. It is now used as well to refer to veranda located outside the house (nure-en). Engawa or nure-en are most visible in temples and often offer beautiful views of wood and stones.
